Wish You Were Here

This is continued from “In the Dark”

“So, so you think you can tell Heaven from Hell,
blue skies from pain.
Can you tell a green field from a cold steel rail?
A smile from a veil?
Do you think you can tell?”

- Wish you were Here – Pink Floyd

Part Two

The world felt awfully unfamiliar to us as we sat by the candle on the bathroom floor  trying to absorb our pregnancy news.

Neither of us really knew what to say.

Foreign news in a foreign country. We were in culture shock and then some!

We decided we needed to get out of the darkness and try and let the news sink in.

We blew out the candle and made our way outside.

We walked aimlessly until we were lured by the sound of a guitarist sitting out the front of a bar.

The bar was called “The Pink Floyd Bar – Wish you were Here”

It felt an unusual bar to find in the North of Vietnam.

The blackout was still in full swing but there were other patrons inside.

So in we went.

The owner was a charismatic Chinese man. Behind the counter there were jars and jars filled with snakes.

We took a seat at a table and ordered a rattle snake, I mean drink, and as it arrived, so did the power.

The charismatic host went straight up to the massive television screen and hit play on the DVD player.

We sat and watched an amazing Pink Floyd concert!

Fresh from the news of our pregnancy this spectacular concert with oversized props and all of the add-ons seemed to magnify the strange space we were in.

To say things were a bit surreal would be an understatement.

Where the hell were we, and what the hell was happening?

Looking back at this time I am amazed at how we got through it and how our new relationship stood up to the pressure of the situation.

Cowboy and I had nobody but each other to turn to in the most stressful (and hormonal) time of our lives.

I was so scared.  We both were.

We longed for familiarity but it had long gone.

It was just us. While I loved Cowboy dearly. I dearly wanted my Mum.

“Oh how I wish, how I wish you were here….”

to be continued…  (maybe- are you with me on this?)
