I’m A Swinger

Ah swings.. where have you been all my life?

I woke up as a new Sharni today, thank God.

I was starting to feel that  me as I knew her had left the building.

As I mentioned a while back, I have been going through the most turbulent, dark rollercoaster ride of late.

I’m pinning it all on hormones and just how incredibly powerful they are.

It is no wonder that growing a baby in your body has to have some serious repercussions – messing with the system and what-not.

After a harrowing few weeks where life as I knew it was a sad place to be, I woke up this morning with an old familiar and VERY welcome spring in my step.

I just had a clear feeling that I had been through something I had to go through, and today the sun was shining again.

Cowboy, Monte and I went to the park up the road.

As Monte ran about investigating the inner workings of woodchips –  I jumped on the swing and recaptured the simple joy!

“These are great!” I told Cowboy

He laughed at me and said “Yeah, don’t you remember swinging on them as a kid?”

I said “Yes, but i didn’t realise it would still be fun as an adult!”

As I went higher and higher on this gorgeous April morn I realised something.

I was back.

I was in the present.

I wasn’t plagued by the worries of yesterday of the what-ifs of tomorrow.

I was just on the swing – cruising through the air – feeling the breeze on my cheeks.

I was with my son and my Cowboy, I was flying and I was loving it.

Wonderful! I remember doing the exact same on a swing in Pyrmont, and thinking, hah! Everyone in these buildings around me is sitting at a desk, doing the 9 to 5, working hard, and I’m on a swing! At that moment I thought life couldn’t get much better.

Welcome back my friend .. mind you ~ YOU were never gone just spinning on the spot and a touch disorientated.

I actually watched a couple in their mid 30′s in the shopping centre today living playfully as young kids. He was giving her a piggyback and she was laughing and slapping him like a horse being wipped.

No inabitions, No worries just innocence and freedom.

They spun around and looked at me then both gave me a smile from ear to ear .. Fror Free .. so I gave them one back each !

Today was a great day !

Well that got my atttention! I’m sure most of us are happy about your choice of ‘swinging’ activity, though perhaps a few disapointed!
I love swinging. Used to do it as a teenager, with my girlfriends for hours. I miss it. Perhaps I can find a swing set whilst I’m here in Glastonbury and have a spiritual style swinging experience.

    Good girl!
Always get back to the present. That’s what mummies have to do.

I too love being on a swing and bending backwards so you are almost hanging upside down and looking up at the sky as you go up and down. I feel free, liberated and a wonderful feeling of fun & joy. Justine Clarke on her album I like to sing – sings a song about swinging that captures this perfectly.

You know you’re a mom when you combine hormones and swinging in the same post and it means….well….it doesn’t mean “sharing”. Git up on it!! (the swing that is)
