Quixotic Life

Welcome to a brand new weekly feature : Friday Fertilizer!

(thanks for the name suggested by Mommy Jenn)

This is a new weekly feature  where I will showcase a blog and/or website written by someone that I deem to be a certified Grass Waterer!

If you would like your website / blog considered for a review please contact me.

Without further ado, the first healthy patch I’d like you to discover is … (drumroll please…….)

Quixotic Life

After I looked up what Quixotic meant, I was in love with this blog.

I spent a lot of time last year looking for blogs to read and be inspired by (when Monte was sleeping, of course).

After reading an insane amount of ho-hum mama blogs, finally, here was one that made me sit up and pay attention.

A breath of fresh air!

Just quietly, I was going ga-ga from one too many self-indulged Mummy blogs.

I was growing tired of reading details of poo texture and reflux, but at the same time had an urge to connect with Mums that can write outside the nappy.

As you can imagine, this blog had me at Quixotic.

Except, I didn’t know what the hell Quixotic meant.

I  knew there was no chance of sitting back and surrendering myself to her blogposts with this  ignorance niggling at me.

So I looked it up. (Am I just really dumb, or is it a new word to you too?!)

It means:

1)Extravagantly chivalrous or romantic; visionary, impractical, or impracticable.

2)Impulsive and often rashly unpredictable.

Not only did I discover a fabulous blog, but I learnt a new word.

I am dying to use it in a sentence.

What I love about this site is that she writes about issues personal to her, but in a universal manner.

Some of her posts are of the Mum variety, but she also explores a plethora of subjects ranging from marriage to Heath Ledger.

I LOVE how she gets on her high horse about Truth in Advertising.

Her post yesterday “Do you want some porn with your Petrol?” explores the issues surrounding the placement of magazines at petrol stations that often feature scantily clad women in provocative poses right in the eyeline of children.

It is a great post and one that has inspired me to look more into this subject.

She has an extremely funny, self deprecating side as well, you can see this showcased in her  Bad Mummy Diary – Part One.

Quixotic shoots from the heart, has nicely timed humor, and is not afraid to spout her opinion or to laugh at herself.  She is a little bit dreamy, philosophical and I think pretty zen.

I love that in a grass waterer.

Make sure you pay her a visit, and tell her Sharnanigans sent you.

Oh Yay! I adore this blog as the lovely owner of it knows and I’m pleased you like it too. I do hope I’m not one of the self-indulgent Mama bloggers although I would never discuss the contents of the young man’s nappy! Eewwww. Looking forward to more reviews. :)

I am looking forward to checking this out mostly based on your comments about looking for mummy blogs ‘outside the nappy’. Considering there are SO many blogs out there, its surprisingly bloody hard to find the good ones!
