Touristy Eyes

Have you ever  looked at the place you call home as if you were a tourist?

I recommend giving it a go.

If the place you live in is quickly losing its mojo, this is a sure-fire way to get it back.

Imagine you were a visitor and it was your first time to wherever it is that you live… what do you think would blow them away about the place you call home?

Where would they go to unwind and relax?

Now you have the answer my friend, go to that place, as though you were
wearing a bum bag and knee high socks.

This morning, instead of wallowing around in my PJs going through the motions.
I packed up Monte and headed around the corner to our local river beach.

Sometimes I begrudge the OHT so much I miss the stuff that is great.

Actually my Aunt was here for Christmas and she was all ” Wow, it is so beautiful down there, if I were you guys I’d be down there all the time swimming, kayaking, reading the papers…”

Such a simple thing to say, but the fresh perspective was absolutely needed.

Now I have seen the OHT through the eyes of a non-local – I am going to enjoy the natural wonders as though I was a tourist.

Its pretty huh?
The Cowboy and I have shiny new kayaks that we paddle down here….

I was going to sprout a line about the serenity but you saw it coming.

I recommend donning the bum-bag once in a while, getting a little daggy and taking a fresh look at where you live. You may be surprised.

This afternoon I went out on our front deck and marvelled at the view that had us so excited and on top of the world when we moved here. I’d forgotten to look at it recently. It brought me back to how fantastic we felt when we first arrived in the Mountains.
    thanks Sharni!

I’m a frustrated tour guide. I really should have been one, as there is nothing I like better than showing people around my town. I get all excited and draw up itineraries according to their tastes.
I even get requests from friends of friends for ideas of things to do.

Ah you are so right… I need to go up to the top of our mountain and remind myself how beautiful it really is. Though I might wait a few months till the weather warms up a bit!

Being overseas for March really helped me with this. Nothing like seeing how other people live (and I’m talking UK, not the third world) to make you realise how lucky you are to have what you have.

I remember writing about this concept recently, except it was more about looking at the weird social situations I was finding myself in – which weren’t always that pretty! But I thought of them as a kind of ‘foreign travel experiences’. And you are right, its wonderfully refreshing when we keep our eyes open this way
