I first discovered Natasha through her blog Notes From A Muse.
Since then we have struck up a social media friendship (which is sooooo now, darling) and have swapped opinions and laughs on a whole manner of things.
Natasha works in PR, has her own kinesiology business, she also dabbles in stand up comedy.
Oh and did I mention her latest ‘flight of fancy’ is in July to a certain OHT? A spontaneous and life loving gal indeed!
Please say hello to Natasha!
Who is Natasha David?
Hard question! Um… I try to live a conscious life and be present in the moment as it happens. I have never been one to shy away from hard questions, and embrace the truth that I grow closer to through asking them.
I laugh a lot, even when I am on my own (although I hope this doesn’t portray me as a looney!). I love to play, to be silly and childlike as often as I can.
I take stock and give thanks for the blessings I have. I try to let go of things that no longer serve me. When I am given a sign, I try to listen with an open mind. When I am given an opportunity to meet someone new, have a new experience, or to push my boundaries, I always say “yes”!
I have been incredibly blessed in life, as well as being given my fair share of life’s challenges. I believe this comes as a direct result from setting my ultimate goal of being the best person that I can be. I am only just now being given many signs to take stock, relax, and reap the rewards.
Where do you live, and what do you love about it?
I live in the inner-city suburb of Surry Hills, in Sydney. I love that it is so close to the hustle and bustle of the city, I love that I can stroll 5 minutes in either direction to access great food, art galleries, museums, beaches, exhibitions, comedy and music venues, the list goes on! I also love that in my particular neck of the woods, I can close the door to my apartment, and it feels like I am in a little oasis, a sanctuary. Surry Hills has this amazing community vibe to it. It’s close to everything, but also has little hidden gems that allow you to sit… breathe… and just be.
What do you know now that you wish you knew when you were younger?
I was in such a hurry to grow up! I wish that I had known that childhood, while being so frustrating in that I never liked being told “what to do”, could also have such a freedom from responsibilities and the pressures of life.
I think I took on a lot of that responsibility way too early being the first born of four children, and grew up much faster than I needed to. Having said that, that outlook is what made me who I am today, and I have found outlets to “let the inner child” out a lot more in my adult life in ways that I couldn’t as a child.
Things like my comedy shows allow me to completely be in the moment, and connect to the playfulness that I think I overlooked as a wee young kiddie.
What does it mean to be human?
To accept that we are here to learn, that we are given the lessons and challenges in life for a reason, and to always seek the opportunity for growth through those experiences, whether we deem them to be “good” or “bad”.
I believe it also means having compassion for the human condition. Sure, there is a lot of bad in the world, but there is also a lot of good. To be human is to accept and forgive the less pleasant aspects of life, and to understand that others along with ourselves, need these experiences for that growth.
Finally, to be human means to love. To love oneself, first and foremost. Most human frailty stems from the pain of the lack of self-love. We see incredible pain inflicted by people towards other people, but the genesis of love begins with self. Once we truly love and accept ourselves in all our glory and flaws, we can then extend that love towards others.
How do you water your grass?
I always resonated with the moment in Dead Poets Society where the teacher shows his current students a photo of students who have since passed on, saying “these students once had ambitions and passions that were muted through the daily grind of lives”, (or words to that effect) explaining the saying: “Carpe Diem”… Sieze the Day!
So, I water my grass by staying fully present in the moment, and seizing that moment as it presents itself. We can pursue many pleasures of life, which is a bit like chasing the end of the rainbow… it’s not real. The pleasures of life can be empty without presence of mind, being fully present in the moment. Even a small chore such as cooking dinner or hanging out the washing can be transformed by truly being present in that moment, as much as any grand gesture will ever be.
So… I try to water my life as much as I can by seizing the day, whether it is taking a trip, meeting a new person, or doing the washing up!
What makes you laugh more than anything in the world?
My zany, kooky and totally loveable family. While we are four very different individuals, we have come to a place of total acceptance of who each other really are, which is also the same premise behind the improvised comedy shows that I do, where we are taught to say to any offer given to us with a “yes, and…”
I realise that my brothers and sister and I have been practising this concept since I can remember.
It doesn’t matter how weird or wonderful a comment may be, we all join in to take that concept to its illogical conclusion. That makes me laugh more than anything in the world.
What would you do if you knew you could not fail?
In most areas of my life I feel like I have achieved this already. About the only other area left to let go of the fear of failure is within my love life. If I felt like I couldn’t fail here, I would probably be already living my ideal life of having what I have now, but also being deliciously loved up and supported by a “partner in crime”
If you could have any three people for dinner who would you have and what would you make?
I am a huge fan of comedy, and I love to laugh, so I would like to have dinner with Arj Barker, Janeane Garofalo and Dylan Moran.
I’d make it tapas, as I think it would create great comic moments. I think some of these comedians have even done “bits” on why they hate tapas, so why not add fuel to that comic fire.
Finish this sentence….. Sometimes I think it would be better if everybody just took ownership of their own responses to people, situations, and stresses, rather than attributing those reactions to others.
