Ramona is a loyal reader who lives in Israel. She writes a touching honest blog called Alone in the Holy Land
Ramona is my only reader from Israel and it is with pleasure that I introduce you to her.
Please make her feel very welcome and drop by her blog and say Hi, she would absolutely love it.
Who is Ramona Lazar?
I often ask myself the same question…But seriously, I am a former journalist, at some point in life done some EFL teaching and now, a staying at home mother for my daughter Maya, that’s because my son Darie is 24 and doesn’t need me anymore (well, all right, only when I have to do his laundry, he does).
I’m almost 45 years old in the passport, at least, because inside I am sometimes 20 and sometimes 120….A lost soul, in a quest for the meaning of life…

Where do you live?
I was born in Romania but for the last 10 years I’ve been living in Israel, in a modern and therefore ugly city on the Mediterranean coast.
If you could be any character from a movie, who would you be and why?
When I was thinking about the answer to this question I found out that the characters I would’ve chosen are actually from movies that are based on novels, so it doesn’t count, does it?
One of my favorite movie (actually it is a series) character is Dharma from “Dharma and Greg”.
I love her spontaneity, her generosity and above all, the courage to be herself and stand for her opinions and things that she believes in.
What is the biggest epiphany you have had?
I think it wasn’t anything spiritual, actually some 13 years ago after a very bad case of biliary colic and surviving on rice, toast and cottage cheese for a month I discovered that I was doing fine without meat…and I became a vegetarian. The moral issues came in later.

What makes you laugh the most in the world?
Mr. Bean and other British series (Some Mothers Do ‘Ave Them is absolutely hilarious and so is “Keeping Up Appearances). I have them on DVS and no matter how many times I’ve watched them, I still find them funny.

Where is one place in the world you would go now if you could go anywhere?
Absolutely, definitely India.

What is your favourite childhood memory?
It is strange how, with age, comes an avalanche of childhood memories…The most precious for me: running in the summer rain and getting wet and being exhilaratingly happy.
How do you keep your grass green?
As you know by now, I am living now in Israel and we have a very serious water problem here.
So I don’t water my grass much…Take it as a metaphor or take it as a fact, it is true…I have a very difficult time living here, getting used to the life here, so every bit of grass elsewhere gets to be greener than mine.
What I try to do is let my kids water it for me…I live for and through them at the moment, although I must take some “gardening lessons” soon.

What are your favourite places to visit online?
I am absolutely and totally addicted to internet. Most of my friends are virtual, so I tend to spend a lot of time online. I like to read blogs, socialize on facebook, there are some on line shops that sell second hand books in English.
