Shining Star – Yasmin Boland

It is with pleasure that I introduce you to Australian Astrologer , Journalist and New Age writer Yasmin Boland.

I asked Yasmin if she would be a guest on Sharnanigans because, well frankly, I’m fascinated. I have days where I am as looney as wheel and you can bet your bottom dollar a full moon is lurking.

Yasmin Boland has made her living out of writing about how the astrological weather affects our lives. She has been scouring the skies for insights for over 10 years. She has Astrology and New Age columns in the Sunday Telegraph, Madison, Cleo and New Idea. She  writes the daily Stars for Yahoo! Australia and New Zealand, and for various US and UK sites. She has a weekly audience of millions and her website Moonology is one of the most popular astrology sites in Australia with around 500,000 page views a month! She appears regularly on Television and radio and is the author of of several books, fiction and non-fiction. Her next book “Cosmic Love” will be published next year with Hay House.

I am very grateful that Yasmin took the time to answer some questions for me, she is certainly a lady who waters her grass and better still she is clued in about the best times of the year to do it!   Please make her feel welcome!

Yasmin Boland - legendary astrological expert!

Who is Yasmin Boland?

I can never work out which order to put these descriptions in! They’re usually asked in a professional context but my most important role is being a mother!

So I usually avoid defining who I am. But since you ask so directly I’d have to say (in no particular order!): mother/wife/daughter/sister/friend/writer/astrologer.

Why are you so passionate about astrological weather?

Impossible to answer “why”! It’s innate.

Presumably I was an astrologer in a previous life and have brought my passion with me into this one!

I know that when I was “learning” astrology, I felt more like I was “remembering” it. I felt the same way with Tarot. Maybe I was once a (good) witch!

I once did a past lives regression session and in one of the lives I “saw”, I was an English herbalist type person who certainly looked like she might have dabbled in the Stars! I was also told by a healer once during a session that I was one of the infamous 7th century AD Arabian astrologers!

This healer didn’t know much about astrology at all so it was quite something for her to just come out with!

What would you say to critics that believe astrology is rubbish?

Have a nice day!

How do you keep your grass green?

I practice a lot of gratitude!

What do you know now that you wish you knew when you were younger?

That I was pretty!

I got an email via Facebook from a “boy” (now a man!) that I used to know when I was 14 and he said he remembered me as “a very pretty, friendly girl” which made my day – but I wish I’d known that then.

I didn’t have massive hang ups or anything but at that stage of my life, I did used to wish I looked more like the classic Aussie surfer girl and let’s face it, that was never going to happen!

To what degree have you actually controlled the course your life has taken?

I do make plans – I have a Capricorn Moon which means I need plans but a lot of it has also happened very organically.

Being a full time astrology writer was never in my plans!

I was a regular journalist for years with an interest in astrology on the side when someone (Closer magazine in the UK) offered me my first column and now it’s all I do!

What impact do you wish to leave on the world?

I do like to help people with astrology as much as I can. I get thousands of emails from readers a year and can only answer so many personally, but I do answer as many as I can. But my biggest job is of course as a Mum.

Very sad to say that I no longer believe in astrology but I kind of wish I did. My brother doesn’t feel the same way – he rejects it outright because he’s a virgo born in the Chinese year of the pig:(

Nikki – Ah, I knew that face looked familiar.

Yasmin – I will definitely read your column avidly next time I get Body and Soul. I like that section best.

Sharnie – Thanks for the intro and keep up the fab blogging:)
