Dems the Brakes

Day Five didn’t end so well.

Driving to pick up Monte in the afternoon, I was overcome with queaziness, a tingling sensation went through my entire body and my arms and legs starting going numb, I was dizzy and blurry and thankfully had the sense to pull over in the car.

I had been feeling queazy for about two hours before this – even though had been eating well and drinking water.

For a moment I contemplated continuing on my journey – but when my vision started going on me – I fortunately made the right call.

When I parked the car, I blacked out for a second.

I wandered over to the road to my friend’s cafe. It was closed, I saw her down the back so made my way to bang on the window.

I thought I was having a stroke, honestly – this really scared me – i didn’t know what was happening.

My friend Rejeana took me to the hospital. Everything was normal, blood pressure, blood sugar, pupils fine.

They thought it must have been change in diet and supplements.

I continued to feel numb and dizzy for the rest of the night.

After a night of ridiculously vivid and disturbing dreams I awake today – not numb, but still dizzy and a little disheartened.

Naturopath says I may have experienced a ‘healing crisis’ , my reaction was one in a million, or that the packet of lollies may have tipped me over the edge.

I doubt it. If there is one thing this body knows how to do it is handle a packet of lollies!

I am sticking to my eating regime but am going off the supplements for now.

Who knew such a change in eating with added supplements could send my body and mind into utter chaos? Did you know? Have you ever experienced anything like this?

Healing crisis? My arse. Honey, your body already has a very functional detox unit of its very own – it’s called your liver! You’ve done the right thing to steer clear of those dodgy supplements. Just eat the good stuff and get lots of rest and water water water.

You may not want to hear this but I agree with Al. Your liver and kidneys are doing a fabulous job to detox your body. Years ago I saw naturopaths, did detoxes, supplements and felt utterly shit. After doing research for stories I decided the supplements were just giving me very expensive urine.

Regular healthy meals, lots of water, a bit of exercise and adequate sleep will have you feelings on top of the world. Oh and don’t forget the odd piece of choccy (dark for the antioxidants), a glass of wine (red again for the antioxidants) on occasion and even a strawberry & cream, jelly bean or ‘forbidden fruit’ now and again will do you good.

The key is moderation, moderation, moderation. The only thing you shouldn’t do in moderation is laugh. Make sure you have a great big belly laugh every single day. Laugh until your cheeks hurts. The best medicine.

I hope you’re feeling better today, no doubt that a drastic change in diet will have you feeling off. If you are going to keep going make sure you do it slowly.

Anyway, that’s my 2c. Best of luck and take care, Sharni!

If I take my supplements on an empty stomach, I feel queasy and dizzy. Apparently, they are considered food and should be ‘eaten’ with a meal. Never the severe reaction as you had, though. That must have been very frightening.
