Crunch Time At Balmain Wharf

I was running to the ferry at Balmain Wharf and missed it by a breath.

Seemed I was the last one there so a little disgruntled I walked over to check the timetable.

I sighed at my misfortune.

Click, click, click, click.

The familiar sound of stilettos approaching. I looked up, then down.

I looked again,

The familiar clicking was coming from a familiar person.

HOLY DOOLEY! It was my old boss.

The Old Boss who had it in for me.

Massively.

The one who seemingly went out of her way to ruin my working life.

The same boss who called me a “Silly Bitch” in front of my colleagues which prompted me to write a letter to HR.

Yes, you might call her my nemesis.

It was three years since I had worked for her, and following my letter to HR she had left in a hurry.

I never knew if it was connected, but trust me, I wouldn’t write a letter of complaint over any old thing. She  was an A-Grade Bully.

Back at the wharf, it was like a scene from a movie.

Our eyes met. She quickly looked the other way. Her eyes darting here and there.

I walked the other way and made a phonecall to my Aunt who lived in Balmain to tell her of my misfortune.

Within minutes, my Aunt pulled up in her car and did something that still has me in stitches.

From the road as she made her way down to where I was she dramatically started shouting:

“Oh Sharni, I can’t believe you got the gig in Paris!”

Trying to contain my laughter, I smiled ” I know!!!”

“I always knew you were BRILLIANT!” she emphasised.

I looked over at my ex-boss and for the first time saw squirming reach new heights.

The ferry approached.

I have never seen a person walk  faster to catch a ferry.

I kissed my Aunt and laughed and laughed before pacing behind my ex-boss and catching the ferry.

That, right there, was the moment you dream of.

The one-on-one you think only happens in the movies.

Oh yeah, it happened that day and it was sweeeet.

(NB: in hindsight, I am glad I had her as a boss because it was from that terrible experience that I learned to become assertive- so no regrets, and thanks to her! But it doesn’t change the fact that the wharf incident was very satisfying!)
