I Hate Running

Today I face up to the truth of the matter, I have some major comfort zones to push and I need as much support as I can muster! HELP!

There I said it.

This morning I got up and did my run earlier than I have been.

The heat and the grasshoppers have been unbearable in the afternoon so finally getting my groove on this morning I expected a finer experience.

Wrong.

I did not take my digital camera because I have discovered I focus more on making jog-blogs than my actual training!

Let me rephrase, I do my training but I am not concentrating on the training. I am distracting myself with making the blogs!

The fear of running 5kms has entered my heart and I have decided to jog blog only once a week and the rest of the time face up to the truth.

The scary truth.

That I have a fear of running and watch the clock every second for the moment I can stop and walk AND I have an absolute disdain for the heat and the flies that stick to my face as I run! Disdain I tell you!

I am nervous I am not fit enough so am going to have to step it up a major notch.

I have been focusing totally on the Afghan Women’s Writers Project to get me through.

But if I am mindful, present and aware as I jog – which I aspire to be, I can tell you I am consumed, yes consumed with discomfort and fear that I will not be able to conquer the 5kms.

Please continue supporting me, I need you more than ever!

For the next Australian Pledger I have a stunning necklace from Katiebo Jewellery worth $49.95 up for grabs, for any pledge $20 or more.

HELP!

Sharni! Running with heat and flies just sucks. No wonder you hate it. It’s against our nature to try to heat up our bodies even more when it’s so hot. If I were you I’d be treadmilling it all the way… do they have treadmills in Hay?

Yeah I actually started on the treadmill and found it so boring so hit the road which at first, I found nice, before the plagues arrived! Boring vs Plagues. I will think on this ….:-)

Ugh! I have swallowed 2 flies this week WALKING. Could you try the mindfulness technique to stay in the present. I wish I could run, but it scares me too. I have a theory for why this is-I think it’s because as heart rate and breathing increase the body thinks something scary is happening- a fear response. So we try to avoid it. If that is true then your body has to learn that nothing catastrophic is going to happen. Mindfulness would help with that. Keep going Sharni! xx

I am completely trying the mindfulness techniques Heather, and I actually see this as a great opportunity to practice them, a way to go but I am definitely trying to be mindful, I am aware I try and avoid the reality of running while I am running so this is a really good opportunity to try the techniques. How is that for a positive spin on it???

Yep that works for me. Of course it takes years of practice to become a Zen master-we might have to run around the world like Forrest Gump to get there. Hey now there’s an idea…..

Yeah, I also hate running. And I can’t imagine how it must be in that dry heat, I did my C25k in Autumn and that was hard enough. Just take it slow. Focus on the end of those short intervals…

I dislike jogging but to be honest I am missing it. The minute my bubba pops out in March (well as soon as I am able) I will be back on the running track, mark my words. Do my jogs for me til then?
