Running For Those Who Can’t

So folks it has been 3 weeks since I pledged I would train to run 5kms for the Afghan Women’s Writers Project.

What a ride it has been.

The first week I completed my three sessions on the treadmill, easing my way in with alternating 60 second jogs with 90 second walks for 20 minutes.

I am coping.

Session three I pulled my calf muscle and was out for the week. (and actually I was in Sydney, minus my runners during week 2)

Now I have jumped to week 3 , with added pressure to reach 5kms by my goal date.

I am giving it my all to make up for a lost week, but am nervous!

I decided to ditch the treadmill and am doing my second week on a lovely country road and river bend.

Open air, prettier scenery. Bye Bye Treadmill! What was I thinking?

I have struggled with the heat, flies, and mozzies and a chatterbox mind that thinks I will not succeed, but HEY! MIND! I am determined.

My mind is my worst enemy in this game so I really need your support like no other.

Please make a pledge below to support me in completing this goal ALL money will go to the Afghan Women’s Writers Project. (AWWP)

How important it is to give a voice to the Afghan Women.

Please read the poem below written by an Afhghan woman, then look inside your heart and make a pledge so we can make a difference for women who do not have the freedoms that we take for granted.

Thought It Was a Dream But When I Woke, I Couldn’t Walk

I asked my mom is it possible
That my legs and my hands
will grow again?
No one
No one
No one answered me.
Everyone, including the doctor, was silent.
All were looking down
As if they were stealing from me,
As if they were criminals
guilty of doing something bad to me.

Read the complete poem here then PLEASE pledge below.
