When I was very young, probably 4 or 5, I had a recurring nightmare starring Gargamel. (The bad guy in the Smurfs).
I can remember it as clear as day.
Gargamel and I would play Hide and Seek, with a twist.
I was always hiding, Gargamel always seeking and… if he found me, he would… kill me.
It was a very dark and very scary recurring dream.
I cannot tell you over exactly what period this nightmare recurred but I can tell you I outsmarted him, eventually.
You see everytime I had the nightmare, I would hide in the same spot, behind the kitchen bench.
Inevitably Gargamel would find me, I would become absolutely terrified and wake up, shaken.
One particular night, for whatever reason Gargamel decided to visit – I was present, and ready.
I decided to give the kitchen bench the flick and hid under the bed.
He didn’t find me.
I woke up.
I never played Hide and Seek with Gargamel again.
I learned an important life lesson back then when I was five that  I have never forgotten.
If you do what you have always done, you will get what you have always got.
Yes, there are predators as scary as Gargamel lurking on every corner in life.
If you aren’t happy, change your hiding spot and you might wake up, breathe a sigh of relief and realise everything is OK.

When I was small I had a recurring dream about ET…he would chase me down burning streets, jabbing that finger at me. I’d never seen the movie but I knew it was scary beyond measure. Then I sucked it up, watched ET and never dreamt about it again (though since I have bawled buckets every time I watch it). But yes, do what you have always done, you will get what you have always got.
