That Is A Load Off (but not literally)

Having just completed my fitness challenge to run 5kms, inspired by a FANTASTIC cause I have been disheartened to acknowledge that I didn’t lose any weight as a result.

What does my body want???? BLOOD?!

I have hesitated in writing a post about this, for fear of being lame.

But it’s my blog and I’ll cry if I want to.

My focus for completing my challenge was to raise awareness and dollars and to COMPLETE an exercise goal.

I am proud, so very proud of both of these achievements, let me assure you.

I was secretly hoping that after I did what I set out to do there would be a side-perk in it for me – weight-loss!

This was not to be.

While  I feel stronger, mightier and more toned, I did not lose any weight.

In fact,  I’m a little heavier! (please spare me the muscle weighs more old wives tale)

Reality bites:  I didn’t change my eating habits, and I’m not 20 anymore.

Back in my 20′s I could eat what I wanted, do no exercise and stay thin  (but not healthy).

These days, it seems my body is taking no prisoners.

If I want results- I have to go the whole hog, damnit!

So while embarking on my next challenge- swimming 1500m non-stop before the OHT Pool shuts up shop, I am ALSO going to  implement a better way of eating.

My goal is to give my body what it needs, in a yummy but healthy way.

My goal is not a dress-size, it is just for my body to be what it would be if I put the right food in it.

That is none of my mind’s business.

I just want to give my body the right stuff and then let my body decide what kind of shape that will leave it in.

My vessel for all these fitness challenges deserves to have the right fuel in it, don’t you reckon?

I also am conscious of what I am teaching Monte.

I can’t go on giving him fruit salad while I  hide behind a cushion devouring chocolate.

He is onto me.

I am onto me.

Oh, I LOVE food.

I want flavour and I enjoy cooking (and having Cowboy cook!)

I want to enjoy it, I’d just like to trim down a bit so I feel comfortable in myself.

So I’m looking for any advice from Foodies out there and very, very soon will be bringing you a brand new series: Cowboy & I in the Kitchen – (he just doesn’t know about it yet, but I’m thinking his inner Gordon Ramsay is going to LOVE IT)

These before and afters DO look like I have lost some weight I think, however the scales aren’t keen on proving that.

BASTARDS!

Forget the scales my dear! If you feel great, that’s all that matters. Are your clothes fitting differently? That is where the truth lies. You are looking mighty fit and totally fabulous love! Totally gorgeous!

You have lost ‘cm’ definately Sharni, I told you that when I saw you a month ago! Muscle weighs more than fat and you can gain muscle, loss fat without changing the scales. Keep your chin up, you look Fab!

Firstly I agree with Karls and think you look HOT however of you’re not happy with yourself then sure try something different.
I’m into healthy and yes eating fresh preferably organic and predominately fruit & vege is on track. Try a big glass of water about half an hour before meals and listen to your body and stop when you start to feel full! amazing how much can be left on your plate, often about the 25%-30% mark!
Eat fruit & nuts as snacks if you feel hungry in between meals. I’ve found having healthy snacks on hand like hummus, nuts, fruit & falafels (which are cheap & easy to make) make it easy to not stray into unhealthy choices.
Best wishes for the new goals, look how well you did with the last one!

Sharni, you know we’ve never set eyes on each other in the flesh, but you definitely look trim and gorgeous in the exercise gear. You simply can’t run almost daily without doing your body lots of wonderfulness. And I absolutely agree with Karls, it’s all in how the clothes fit, if that button on your jeans is doing up a little easier or there is a bit of a trouser looseness around your thighs where previously they were stretched to maximum capacity, then that speaks more to me than whether I’m .5kg lighter. Calories in/calories out. And being a fabulous example for Monte is a great motivator. Keep it real though, where would we be without the occasional hit of chocolate after dinner or an early evening chilled white wine! You’re beautiful inside and out!

Oh and I haven’t looked at my weight on the scales since I had Smith 5 years ago, and I couldn’t be more at peace with my eating and my weight than what I am now. Ditch those scales.

Yeah, scales should not be believed. If you really want an idea, use a tape measure before the swimming pool challenge – hips and waist. And you do look like you’ve lost weight for sure, I thought so when I saw you doing the run. My bathroom scales are insisting I’ve only put on 1kg during pregnancy so far, which I know to be a lie…
