It has been over 40 degrees for the last few days. Uncomfortably hot. Still, I must have my daily coffee made by either Lisa at the local Yenda deli, or Maree at the Beelbangera Store. I alternate depending on what I’m up to.
A couple of weeks ago a larrakin man started chatting to me while I ordered my Beelbangera coffee, the next week I was in ordering from Lisa in Yenda and the same man entered the shop.
“Don’t give her a coffee!” he joked “She drinks them at Beelbangera!”
Now, of course, this was a ridiculous situation but I felt embarrassed for some reason!
“Only sometimes Lisa!” I said as if I was betraying her!
“And yours is way better” I added urgently as she was mid-brew.
For those not acquainted, Yenda, where we live is a tiny, tiny little One Horse Town , almost a ghost town after it flooded last year – Lisa, who makes me a lovely coffee does so from the local Supermarket / Newsagent / Deli. Beelbangera is an even smaller town, perhaps with half a horse – and is halfway between Yenda and the Big Smoke. (Griffith)
Griffith is littered with lovely Italian cafes but I like my coffees from these little stores. Call me Old Fashioned.
Today, lo and behold the entire family was sitting down having a boiling hot brew at Beelbangera while the barometre pushed 45 degrees celsius.
We were enjoying the air-conditioner on our brows while sipping hot lattes, when who waltzes into the store but Lisa and her Husband!
At the precise moment, Â the man who had been teasing me about drinking coffee also wandered in! You can’t make this stuff up!
I felt as if I had been sprung having an affair! Â I was in a Seinfeld episode, you know the one where George gets cross about his worlds colliding!
Our eyes met. All I could say was “Busted!”
We all had a good laugh.
It is these funny little moments that make life ,don’t you think?
