Happy New Year Dear Reader,
How the heck are you?
I am going to start up a 52 lessons from my kids blogpost on here – starting this week – but first – some catchup…
On the 21st of December the world did not end, in fact for Monte it was the best day in his world as it was his 4th birthday.
The morning started with Berry Pancakes and balloons in the kitchen.
Pancakes were awesome (thanks Cowboy) and we decided this must be a new birthday tradition.
I’m all keen to have family traditions, I don’t know why – it just makes things feel more like, family. Do you have any good ones?
Here are some more pics from the day where I was expecting the challenging behaviour of 3 to evaporate into mid-air. It sort of has you know! Seriously (but that is another blogpost)
Some pictorial from the event:
Another tradition we have is that Cowboy makes the cake (can you notice a theme going on here?! ha) and this year (as in last year) he wanted a T-Rex cake and well we thought about doing a fancy one in the proper shape but who were we kidding? A packet cake with figurines would please him just as much and as usual Cowboy did a fantasia job. For events such as these I tend to take the role of “Artistic Director” and Cowboy tends to play “Artistic Executor”
It works, OK!
It was a happy albeit stressful occasion, what with Christmas also looming -
AND if that wasn’t enough, hello 23rd of December 2012, 5.6 years after meeting Cowboy, two kids later………. he takes me down to Soapworks Beach in my Old One Horse Town where we were visiting for Christmas and he proposes to me.
Can you imagine?
I didn’t see this coming one iota!!
Down on bended knee on some bark, on a 40 degree day, me seated on a log eyes kind’ve shut -opened to reveal a nervous as anything Cowboy ring in hand popping THE question! After all this time!
I burst into tears! It was just great. Â We are engaged. A desperate house de-facto I will no longer be!
I have never been one of those girls who has mapped out her wedding day since she was 12. It has never bothered me if I was to be married or not, even though I have heckled poor Cowboy the last 5.6 years – but you know what? It is really special now it is happening. I think somehow in our particular relationship the ‘two of us’ ended quite abruptly and our whirlwind relationship has been dominated by being parents. Somehow we missed the part where we got our friends and family together and said “Check US out! We are into each other and we want you to celebrate that with us!”
Very excited to be organising the gala event OF THE YEAR!
There are many peeps who have not even met our family or my Cowboy that I hope to catch up with. I have also been searching for dresses. Non-conventional but dreamy dresses. Oh and how cute will Tansy and Monte be. Oh lord.
I know how nervous Cowboy got himself proposing which is cute really after all we have been through. Getting married, then having babies and all that convention is so yesterday.
Anyway.
The ring:
The backdrop for the big question
Now I feel the need, like everyone, to declutter, lose weight, simplify. But what else is new??!
Happy New Year peeps. I am hoping this year to blog lessons I have learned from my kids (they are in the zillions I tell you) and bits about the upcoming nuptials! I have a feeling this year is going to have some fine moments. Hope you’ll pop along for the occasional read.
